Closure of German Consulate in Kaliningrad: Changes in Visa Application Process

Commencing November 30, 2023, the German Consulate General in Kaliningrad will cease its operations. Consequently, individuals seeking passports and visas for Germany are directed to liaise with the German Embassy in Moscow.

Moreover, obtaining tourist visas has become subject to updated and more intricate requirements:

1. Financial Guarantees: Applicants must provide a 3-month bank statement from a financial institution "verifiable and operating in EU member states." It is crucial to demonstrate that the bank card will function within the EU. One viable option is to acquire a UnionPay card from a recognized entity like Gazprombank.

2. Medical Insurance: Travelers must obtain medical insurance within the EU, valid throughout the Schengen area, and offering a minimum coverage of €30 thousand. Notably, travel medical insurance issued in Russia is not accepted.

It's noteworthy that, beyond the official stipulations, there may be additional "unwritten" rules. Therefore, seeking assistance from consultants or travel agencies is recommended to ensure the accurate completion of all required paperwork in light of the evolving procedures.
